I just noticed that this is the second non beauty related post this week and I do apologize for that but hopefully you guys enjoy a short break from me yapping about makeup and skincare. Today I will be sharing a little fun…well, not so fun fact about myself.
Fact of the day: I have been suffering insomnia since my 20s.
I can tell you when it all started but unfortunately, I can’t tell you that I have fully overcome it. The stress from the breakdown of my first marriage triggered the whole nightmare and it never went away until today. I have gone through days with zero sleep, 2-3 hours sleep and these days I bounce between 4 – 6 hours sleep a night and after so many years suffering from insomnia, I can tell you one thing for sure.
Your body never gets used to it, the frustration never goes away and on those extremely bad nights, sometimes you just cry and wonder why you can’t do the most simple thing in life…sleep.
I have tried almost everything from meditation to sleeping pills which I highly suggest to leave as your last resort but nothing ever really worked. Our family doctor prescribed me amitriptyline 25mg which is supposed to help me with both migraine and insomnia but while it successfully keeps my migraines at bay, it’s not as effective with my sleeping problem.
So when I was given the opportunity to test 6 HOUR SLEEP, my first reaction was yea, okay, let’s see what you can do, honey. I was kindly sent 5 bottles to test and read on to find out if they actually did anything for me.
From the brand:
“6 HOUR SLEEP is a completely drug-free, pure sleep supplement with a blend of 12 essential sleep promoting ingredients, nutrients and minerals, including acai, mangosteen, and melatonin. Our Sleep Synergy Blend is a powerful mix of antioxidants and other proven sleep agents like chamomile, melatonin, and magnesium that work with your brain and body to gently ease you to sleep, help you stay asleep, and encourage natural sleep cycles so you get the most productive sleep possible.
Our Sleep Synergy Blend engages with your natural rhythms to ease you into consistent and complete sleep cycles. It tastes great, improves sleep, and best of all, it won’t leave you groggy the next morning; instead you’ll wake up feeling better than ever!”
It is suggested to drink a whole bottle 20 minutes before bedtime so it was what I did and the first thing that hit me was the taste. It’s actually a very pleasant fruity flavour but it is also extremely sour.
Second fact about me: I can’t take sour. I can take the spiciest chili but if your feed me a lemon or even worse, a damn pickle…I will roll over and play dead. No, scratch that, I will probably drop dead.
That said, don’t let this little bottle fool you, it actually works. I felt relaxed and ready for sleep after 10 minutes and in the 4 days (I still have one bottle) that I tested this combined with amitriptyline (my doctor advised me to never skip the pill regardless whether I could sleep or not), I had some of the best 4 nights sleep in a very long time. I’m not going to beat around the bush, I am seriously shocked at how this drug-free sleeping aide actually helped me sleep so well when the usual off the counter melatonin didn’t. On top of giving me a good night rest, 6 HOUR SLEEP is also sugar free, zero calories, filled with anti-oxidants and gluten free. If you are curious, the active ingredients in 6 HOUR SLEEP are Melatonin, 5-HTP, GABA, Valerian Root, Passion Flower, Ashwagandha, Vitamin E, Chamomile, Magnesium, Lemon Balm, Mangosteen, and Acai Extract. Is everything peachy and perfect with 6 HOUR SLEEP? Well no….there’s always a catch when something is that perfect, isn’t it? The price would be a sticky point to many as it’s retailing for $12.99/4 pack, $29.99/12 pack or $56.99/24 pack. I love this but could I afford it for long term? Nope, I couldn’t and I think many would be in the same boat as me. Who would need this? If you are rich and can afford this then by all means give 6 HOUR SLEEP a go. If you travel a lot and are looking for a natural remedy to help you re-adjust your body clock then this is for you. Am I ever going to repurchase this? Maybe, if my wallet allows it and if I am going through a horrible phase of insomnia but for now, 4-6 hours sleep a night will just have to do for me.
