Over the years, I slowly learned that my face structure looks best when I wear minimal makeup. I have tried endlessly to create Instagram worthy looks but in the end, I find that it’s just not me. So it has come to a point that I finally conceded that there are only 3 must-haves; eyeliner, mascara and eyebrow products.
And I think we all can agree that Benefit does some pretty dang good brow stuff. As most of you know and could probably relate, eyebrows can be the trickiest part of the face to master. It took me years to finally settle on a style that flatters my face but with lots of mishaps in between.
Remember the blocky Instagram eyebrow trend? Yea, I tried that and I just looked mad, like I was pissed off with life but with thick, one dimension eyebrows like that, who wouldn’t be? Thankfully the trend only lasted a year or two (it felt longer than that tbh…) and then most of us wised up and embraced natural and fluffy eyebrows. Eyebrows finally look like eyebrows again and with textures and proper colours.
Benefit Gimme Brow (Cool Grey*) is a good old classic which remains a firm favourite of many until today. It’s one of the first fibre eyebrow gel that hit the market and took the beauty world by storm and it’s still one of the best until today. While it needs no introduction, I adore how tiny the wand is and it combs through the hair with the perfect amount of product. I do have very sparse eyebrows so I have to be careful while combing through as it’s made for the hair and not for the skin. It instantly gives fuller and fluffier eyebrows and I use this as my first step.
Next, I fill in the empty spaces between the eyebrows and Precisely, My Brow Pencil has the tiniest little nib which allows me to easily draw tiny strokes mimicking hairs. The shade Cool Grey* is the perfect match for me and it leaves the most natural-looking finish. It’s also long-lasting and pretty much fade-resistant and my eyebrows look freshly applied after 10+ hours.
I am most excited for 24-HR Brow Setter* which is a clear brow gel that promises to shape, sets and locks brow colour for 24 hours. Personally, I don’t recommend anyone to wear any sort of makeup for 24 hours but if you need a brow gel that truly holds then this is a good one to try. My eyebrows stayed put from 7:30am until 8:00pm when I finally removed my makeup. The wand is an interesting one, it’s similar to mascara which I thought was odd but it combs through my eyebrows easily with the perfect amount of product. I do suggest using only a little amount as my eyebrows felt a little stiff and crunchy when I applied too much. As much as I love Benefit brow products, I hope the brand will work towards inclusivity in the near future. Having only 12 shades for their foundation is honestly quite shameful but the brand has made a commitment to be and do better to amplify Black voices and empower Black lives. I am not one who supports cancel culture and am a firm believer in second chances so I look forward to the changes Benefit brings. *Gifted but my thoughts and opinions are 100% unbiased, honest and my own. There is no place for any sort of BS here.
